How does SAP generates error or warning messages in case of any event? Say for example, system should be configured to give a warning message when an invoice is entered for a PO with a date which earlier than the PO date. Now, it is understood that just simply creating new entries in 'Define Attributes of system messages' won't work.
It is understood that we have to define message per application area. So, how should the system be programmed or configured to generate error or warning message if an event takes place? Are these message numbers defined in the ABAP programs when a business transaction is processed?
Any link to suitable documentation to understand the concept better will be appreciated?
